Sailors were plucked from the Gulf of Mexico by other vessels Tuesday after "numerous" sailboats reportedly capsized at Clearwater Beach, police said.

The U.S. Coast Guard, police and fire units were on scene off Pier 60 to rescue boaters. All involved were recovered safely, and a search is no longer active, they said.

According to Bay News 9 Chief Meteorologist Mike Clay, winds are gusting at 30 mph, and high surf remains an issue along the beaches. Gale-force winds made the Gulf waters extremely rough, police said.
