“Stop being quiet and open your mouth and talk," began Tonya English, the mother of 18-year-old Contondre Bryant, who was murdered Monday afternoon in South Apopka.

Nearly 100 people gathered at a candlelight vigil to remember 18-year-old Contondre Bryant Thursday night.

“I’m actually happy. I didn’t even think, I thought it was going to be all family and to see Apopka come in with us and gather in with us, it makes me feel like we got a chance," English explained.

Bryant was shot and killed next to a church on Old Apopka Road near 13th Street Monday afternoon.

Detectives said about 40 people were around when Bryant was murdered.

However, so far deputies have not received enough information from witnesses to make an arrest.

“Because it’s a lot of people know what happened but they’re not saying what happened, they’re saying what happened but they’re not putting it on paper," English explained.

Bryant’s mother made a passionate plea to community members at the vigil.

Many of those who were in attendance were teenagers.

“It’s about justice because the same way they killed Dre, they’ll come back and kill y’all," English continued.

“I don’t want to be back here burying one of y’all," English added.

Bryant was a junior at Wekiva High School in Apopka.

Meanwhile, less than a mile away on 13th Street at the Bridges Community Center, dozens of concerned citizens who have had enough of the violence in South Apopka met with Orange County Commissioner Bryan Nelson.

Neighbors want more patrols and opportunities for young people. They hope the meeting is the first step to a solution.

“I think this Task Force is gonna bring in, the Sheriff(’s Office), we will have Apopka Police Department," shared Orange County District 2 Commissioner Bryan Nelson, who represents parts of West Orange County.

"We‘ll have community leaders. It’s a team effort here. It’s not the Sheriff’s fault, it’s not the community’s fault but between the two of them, we can be the solution," Nelson continued.

Bryant’s mother wants her son to be remembered "like he was, happy, laughing and joking.”

However, she also hopes her son’s death is a tipping point.

“I hope God lead and guide them to tell what happened, don’t let my baby’s death go untold. You all came out here to celebrate and be out here with me, tell it," English continued.

"Vengeance is mine says the Lord. I don’t need them to go back out with violence," English pleaded.

Detectives said a brown or gold older model Toyota SUV was seen speeding away from the crime scene.
