A YouTube video shows a scary road rage situation that appears to happen on the Tampa side of the Courtney Campbell Causeway.

  • Video shows confrontation between motorcyclists, driver
  • Passenger jumps out of car holding handgun
  • Police say they received no calls about incident

The video starts innocently enough, with motorcycle riders driving down the road. Moments later, a red BMW shows up on the screen and appears to cut off one of the riders.

At a nearby stoplight, the driver of the car and the motorcyclists exchange words. Then, the video shows a few men from the motorcycles punch the driver, who appeared to be trying to keep one man from moving his bike.

The driver drops to the ground. But then his passenger jumps out of the BMW holding a handgun and points it at the bikers.

Even though the video shows plenty of drivers who witnessed the situation, Clearwater and Tampa Police say they have no phone calls pertaining to the incident.

Mike Davis, who is the editor for the YouTube channel Dankwheelie, posted the video. Davis says he doesn’t know the people involved, and received it from an anonymous contributor, as he does with many of his videos.

“When I post videos, it’s not to brag about something,” Davis said.

He says many of the videos keep motorcycle enthusiasts in the Bay area engaged and updated about things going on in the area. He thought this video could educate drivers and bikers alike.

“You can do something better in the future to keep this from happening,” said Davis.

Sgt. Steve Gaskins with the Florida Highway Patrol says one simple call could have prevented any of it from happening.

“Don’t even confront an aggressive driver in a road rage situation yourself. Back off, call 911, and ask for local law enforcement,” said Gaskins.

It’s unclear when the video was recorded.
