Tech Data Corporation has teamed up with the Pace Center for Girls to teach young women about career opportunities in the field of technology.

The ladies of Tech Data recently hosted a “Go for IT” workshop for girls all across the Bay area. The young women got hands-on experience learning to code and take apart computers while learning about different jobs in IT.

Tech Data's Kent Fecke said there’s a great need for women in the IT field.

"Women have a different viewpoint than men, so they like to look at things a little differently than men do, so it's always good to have those different opinions and viewpoints," Fecke said.

Directors with PACE said the workshop taught the girls about career opportunities they never knew existed.

"When they come and see that, 'Yes, I can take apart a computer and put it back together' and 'Yes, there are careers that are open for me in ways that I hadn't even thought of in places I didn't know about,' " PACE Center's Gail Armstrong said. "It's an amazing experience for our girls."

The girls also had the chance to meet with Tech Data employees and receive mentoring opportunities.
