A Palm Harbor teen is recovering after being hit by a pick-up truck on the way to school.

  • Incident occurred at Alternate 19 and Delaware Avenue in Palm Harbor
  • Teen was walking in marked crosswalk with flashing amber lights
  • Parents of students at nearby high school say Alternate 19 always busy, dangerous for students walking to school

FHP investigators say the teen was walking in a marked crosswalk with flashing amber lights across Delaware Avenue in Palm Harbor when he was struck. He was on his way to school at Palm Harbor University High School.

The truck that struck him was heading south on Alternate 19. The driver, Arthur Price, 53, failed to yield for the victim, and was cited for violation of right of way.

EMS personnel airlifted the teen to Bayfront Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

Parents of other students at Palm Harbor University High said the busy roadway is a concern.

“You have cars coming and going and especially when the sun isn’t up yet,” said James Moller, whose daughter is a sophomore.

The Florida Department of Transportation will now conduct a study at the intersection to see if a traffic light is necessary.
