A Palm Harbor man has been arrested in the April 5 attack of a bicyclist, Clearwater police said.

Michael Nuckolls, 20, was charged with aggravated battery.

According to police, Derek Queener, 44, was riding his bicycle home from work along Jackson Road when he was hit by an unknown object from a passing vehicle.

Police said Nuckolls was riding in the back of a Jeep Compass, driven by a 16-year-old girl, when he reached out the back of the window with a golf umbrella and hit Queener.

Queener, a Marine, suffered extensive facial injuries.

The vehicle was captured on surveillance video from a residence across the street.

Investigators were able to track down the vehicle, which eventually led them to Nuckolls.

He is currently being held in the Pinellas County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
