A Hillsborough Community College student is proving that it’s never too late to pursue your dreams.

  • Caleb Baker, 23, just started dancing three years ago
  • Accepted into three of the most prestigious summer dance programs
  • Baker, a student at HCC, raising money to attend one of the programs

Caleb Baker, 23, was just accepted into three of the most prestigious summer dance programs in the country.

"These are the greats who are in the industry who have been in the industry, these are the people we get to work with," Baker said.

It’s an achievement most dancers work their entire lives for but Baker just started dancing three years ago.

"My teachers they just pushed and pushed and pushed me and from there I've just been going and going and going," Baker said.

Baker’s dance instructors said they were shocked to learn of his lack of experience but not surprised at all by his determination.

"He is very striking on stage. He has what we call the fire inside of him," HCC dance faculty member Christine Acosta said.

Instructors said they hope Caleb’s achievements will help put HCC in the spotlight.

"Hopefully it will let the community know that we're here and that we do amazing work and to come check out our performances and what we have to offer," Acosta said.

Baker said he hopes his story of success will inspire others. He is currently raising money to attend one of the dance programs and has set up a gofundme page. If you’d like to help visit: https://www.gofundme.com/znvpmrtw.
