Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a fatal accident involving a car-train collision in Plant City.
The incident occurred at the railroad crossing near Candis Road and Paul Buckman Highway. Deputies say a car traveling westbound on Candis Road attempted to beat the oncoming train.
The train crashed into the car's passenger side, pushing the car off the tracks and into a ditch, where it overturned.
The passenger in the car died at the scene. The driver was transported to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries.
