The kitten that was thrown from a car last month in New Port Richey is recovering.

A good Samaritan brought the kitten, who has been named April, to the SPCA Suncoast so she could be treated for road rash and severe pneumonia.

The shelter's staff says April has had a lot of complications, but she's improving. They say it's a miracle she survived.

"We're really hopeful of the fact that if she could have maintained in this terrible condition, that she can only get better from here," said Ashley Gandees, the shelter's medical manager. "So nothing's gonna be worse than what she was like when she came in."

If April continues to improve, she will be put up for adoption. The shelter said it will post updates on her progress on their Facebook page.
