Two more people are facing charges in connection with the abuse of a 3-month-old baby in Beverly Hills.

  • Skylar Bennett arrested April 28 for abusing baby
  • 2 more arrested this week in connection with case
  • Baby remains in critical condition

According to the Citrus County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a home in Beverly Hills on April 28 regarding an injured 3-month-old baby. Investigators say they determined Skylar Bennett, 22, had beaten and choked the baby until she lost consciousness.

Deputies say they think the abuse took place over the course of several weeks, with Bennett punching and slapping the baby in the face. They say he also violently shook her because she wouldn't stop crying.

The baby was flown to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, where she remains in critical condition.

Bennett was taken into custody on charges of aggravated child abuse, as well as charges relating to the manufacture and possession of drugs.

On Thursday, Valerie Reed, 20, was arrested on charges of child neglect, manufacturing drugs (cannabis wax) in the presence of a child and possession of cannabis with intent to distribute.

Brandon Bennett, 19, was arrested later that same night. Deputies say Bennett lived in the same home as the other two suspects. He is facing several drug charges.
