The Hernando County chapter of Disabled American Veterans now has a new building, and it was given to them for free.

  • Chapter of Disabled American Veterans lost building due to sewage flood
  • Community members pitched in with new building

A sewage flood destroyed Chapter 67's old building on Cortez Boulevard, west of Brooksville. When members of the community heard about the loss, they stepped up in a big way.

The chapter couldn't afford a new building, so a local doctor gave them a new place for free.

Commander Steven Grecco says he though they were going to have to close up shop.

"Absolutely," he said. "There was no place to go."

The building they moved into used to be a mechanic's garage, so it took a lot of work to fix. Chapter members and community members fixed the place up.

Grecco and the other service offers help to about 1,500 disabled veterans.

Grecco sends out a big thank you to everyone involved.
