Business owners say construction in downtown Tampa is hurting them financially.

The construction of a residential tower, along with new bike lanes, have taken parking spots away from some businesses along Cass Street.

Now business owners said they're losing customers because of the lack of parking.

"We have many customers that told us they just gave up and went back home," said Andrew Kim, manager of Paramount Wigs on Franklin Street.

Business owners said they've taken a financial hit because of the parking woes.

"We don't have any customers driving during the weekdays to come to the bar anymore," said Dan Mouneimne, owner of John Rolfe Tobacco Company.

Tampa's Contract Administration Director Michael Chucran said they have heard the complaints from business owners. He said business owners can file a claim to be compensated if they can show a financial loss.

When construction of the residential tower is complete, Chucran said there will also be additional parking for downtown businesses.

Business owners said they still need a temporary solution while construction is underway. They plan to go to city council to ask for help with the parking woes.
