A motorcyclist died in a crash early Sunday morning in St. Petersburg, according to police.

The crash happened on 6th Street South and 42nd Avenue South around 2:18 a.m.

According to police, a Honda motorcycle was traveling southbound on 6th Street when the driver lost control.  The motorcycle veered to the left and struck the curb of the street.  The driver was thrown from the motorcycle and hit a pole before landing in the road.

The driver, later identified as 26-year-old Nathaniel Allen, was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where he died.
