A dog who was thrown from a van Friday in New Port Richey has died from its injuries.

Deputies say the dog was thrown from a moving van near the intersection of Orchid Lake Road and Floral View Way. The dog suffered a broken pelvis in the incident.

The staff of St. Francis Veterinary Hospital, who worked on "Joe," released the following statement:

"It is with a heavy heart that we report due to severe internal injuries 'Joe' did not survive the procedure to fix his diaphragm. We would like to thank the community for the outpouring of support we have seen over this past weekend. Heaven has gained another angel."

The woman who threw the dog is described as a heavy-set woman who is approximately 45 years old, with blonde hair pulled back in a ponytail and glasses. The van is a white or gray minivan of unknown make or model.
