Paid parking is headed to St. Armand's Circle in Sarasota.

  • Construction on a parking garage will begin winter 2017

This week, the Sarasota City Commission gave final approval to build a new parking garage near the area's most popular stores and restaurants.

It will go on top of the North Adams parking lot and will add hundreds of new spots to the area.

Visitors say the extra spaces are greatly needed.

“Parking is a problem,” said Susan Downing, who lives in Palm Harbor. “We don’t come down when it’s a festival or spring break because we can’t find a spot.”

The city also plans on adding more on-street parking.

Construction on the parking garage is expected to begin in the winter of 2017.
