Haus, the Bay area German Shepherd that’s captured the hearts of millions across the country, finally went home from the hospital on Thursday.

  • Haus saved 7-year-old girl by jumping in front of a rattlesnake
  • Dog treated with anti-venom medication for a week
  • Donations for Haus' medical expenses raised over $50,000

The dog was rushed to Blue Pearl Veterinary Partners last week after being bitten three times by a rattlesnake in the DeLuca family’s back yard.

The DeLuca's believe Haus saved their seven-year-old daughter’s life. She was in the yard with Haus when he jumped in front of the snake.

The dog spent a week in the ICU being treated with anti-venom medication. His family is overjoyed to have him home.

"It was very up-and-down because we didn't know what was going to happen," said Donya DeLuca. "We were hopeful all along, very hopeful. It's all we could be."

The DeLucas said Haus formed a special bond with their two children immediately after they adopted him a couple of months ago. They said the two young kids can’t wait to have Haus home.

"He accepted them right away, so they are just waiting so patiently to just see him and resume life," said Adam DeLuca.

Haus has received an overwhelming amount of support from friends, family and complete strangers. A GoFundme page set up to help with medical expenses raised over $50,000.

The DeLuca’s plan to donate whatever funds are left over after paying Haus' medical bills to local animal rescues. Blue Pearl’s parent company also donated dog food for a year to the DeLuca family, who chose to also donate that to an animal rescue.

"It just shows you the goodness of people," said Donya. "I can't believe people love Haus so much but it warms my heart. I think people want to see something good."
