The driver of an SUV that crashed into a school bus on the Memorial Causeway bridge last month has died from his injuries.

Jamin Carter, 45, of Clearwater, had been in Bayfront Health St. Petersburg since the crash, which happened April 21. Police say he died from his injuries on Friday.

According to police, Carter was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Equinox east on Memorial Causeway when it veered out of control and hit a light pole on the raised median.

The SUV then crossed the median and crashed head-on into a 2014 Blue Bird school bus, which had earlier been used to carry students from Pearson Elementary School in Georgia.

Police have not released any further information about what may have caused Carter to initially lose control of the SUV.
