It's been one week since Haines City Police found the body of Shavon Marlon Shawn, 32, of Haines City.  Haines City detectives said they're tracking down leads, and have a few people of interest, but so far, no suspects.

  • Police say Shawn died from a gunshot wound on May 15
  • More than 50 people attended a candlelight vigil in his honor Sunday

Shawn's mother, Marva McIntosh, is demanding answers.

"I know someone knows something about my son," she said Saturday, before a vigil in his honor. "And I'm asking you to please come forward. We need closure. We don't know what happened.  And I need some answers."

Haines City Police said Shawn died from a gunshot wound. They found his body around 7 p.m. on May 15., just blocks away from the police station in a parking lot behind Big Lots and Tractor Supply Co.

His mother said he left the house that Sunday and never returned.

"And he just leave the house, promising that he's going to make me dinner and even come back with my mother's day gift, because he wasn't here for the day of Mother's Day," said McIntosh. "And he never turn up. He never show up."

McIntosh held an emotional candlelight vigil in his honor at her home Saturday. More than 50 people came out to show support. Friends called him an all around stylist, who loved to do makeup and hair. They also said he was a great cook.

Investigators said Shawn often dressed up as a woman, and called himself "Mercedes Successful" on Facebook. He posted on his page that he was in the process of transitioning.

Assistant Chief Brian McNulty said right now, there's no indication his lifestyle was the reason he was killed. He said Shawn was not dressed as a woman when he was found - officers located him wearing a t-shirt, shorts, and sneakers.
