Over the course of two days, nearly 40 drivers in south Tampa have been issued citations at the intersection of Henderson Boulevard and Lois Avenue.

  • Tampa drivers get new traffic pattern at Henderson Blvd and Lois Ave
  • Tampa PD put up 'no turn' signs to keep traffic moving
  • Monday and Tuesday saw 37 citations, 41 warnings

Earlier this month, West Shore Boulevard was closed at W. Bay Way Drive for storm water canal repairs.

The days following the West Shore Boulevard closure brought a significant amount of traffic onto Henderson Boulevard. Detoured drivers clogged the intersection at Henderson Boulevard and Lois Avenue in an attempt to drive north. In response, the Tampa Police Department put up new 'no turn' signs.

The addition caught many drivers off guard, as evidenced by all those issued citations.

"On Monday and Tuesday, we issued 37 citations and 41 warnings," said Tampa Police spokesperson Stephen Hegarty. "To eliminate confusion, a digital message board has now been placed south of the intersection, reinforcing the message -- no left turns at the upcoming intersection."

Henderson Boulevard traffic should continue past Lois Avenue, and make a left on Dale Mabry Highway. The goal is to keep traffic moving.

According to Tampa Police, the no turn signs will be removed once the construction project is complete along West Shore Boulevard. Currently the construction is scheduled through mid-July.
