  • St. Pete teen involved in serious bicycle crash
  • Tyler Harris, 16, was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries
  • Police don’t think either the driver or the rider was impaired

Tyler Harris, 16, was the last rider in line.

St. Petersburg police say the leisurely group was riding on the Pinellas Trail around 8:30 p.m. when Harris noticed he had fallen about 100 feet behind the others. Trying to catch up, police say he ignored a sign signaling westbound traffic to stop near 49th Street South.

The misstep put Harris directly in the path of a 2006 Ford Escape. Danisha Walker, 22, was driving the vehicle.

The collision threw Harris off of his bike and into the roadway.

He was transported to Bayfront Health following the crash. According to reports, he's being treated for life threatening injuries and remains in critical condition.

Police say they don’t suspect drugs or alcohol were involved with, though the crash is still under investigation.
