A technical glitch stalled thousands of dollars in donations for local non-profit organizations on Tuesday.

Give Day Tampa Bay is a 24-hour event designed to raise money and awareness for local non-profits, but after a morning of fundraising, the glitch kept those organizations from collecting donations.

  • Technical glitch prevented people from making donations
  • Give Day Tampa Bay set up alternative website to accept donations

"We were so encouraged by how donations were going," said Wilma Norton of the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay. "We were optimistic that we were going to get to at least a half million dollars before noon and even cautiously optimistic that we might get close to a million dollars by noon, so to be stalled just under $400,000 is a little frustrating for us and we know it’s frustrating for the people who are trying to be so generous today."

Later in the day, Give Day Tampa Bay set up an alternative website that would allow people to donate to non-profit organizations. Starting at 5 p.m. people can go to giveday.org and find the non-profit they wish to support from the list of participating organizations.

Then go to madepossibleby.us/projects/giveday and make your donation. After you sign in, fill in the donation amount.

After you submit the form, you'll receive an email that asks you which non-profit you want to support. Respond to the email with the name of the non-profit and you will be all set.

Technical difficulties occurred in 55 other cities that were holding similar events and are using the same online platform.
