A 15-year-old student is accused of stabbing another student, age 14, with a steak knife.

According to Hillsborough County deputies, on Thursday, at approximately 2 p.m. at Wharton High School, the student got into a verbal confrontation with the victim.

The fight became physical and deputies said the student armed himself with a steak knife that he had on him.

Deputies said he stabbed the victim multiple times, and that the suspect then hid the knife in the nearby boys' bathroom trashcan.

The victim was transported to a local hospital. His injuries were described as non-life threatening.

The knife was recovered at the scene.

The student was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, tampering with evidence and possession of a weapon on school grounds.

We are not naming the teen in accordance with our crime guidelines because he is a minor.
