Two students are facing charges after a gun was found at Chamberlain High School, causing officials to put the school on modified lockdown.

Chamberlain High School was placed under lockdown Friday morning after officials received a tip that a student had a weapon. The lockdown has since been lifted.

Officials said the student, age 19, found an unloaded weapon and ammunition in his backpack. Charges were dropped against the student.

During the course of the investigation, officials said they learned a 15-year-old student had actually brought the gun on campus - the same gun later found in the older student’s backpack.

Both students were taken into custody on charges of possession of a firearm on school grounds, as well as disruption of a school function.

School security searched the rest of the school to ensure the campus was safe. After the search was complete, the modified lockdown was lifted.

School officials sent an automated call to parents regarding the incident.
