Life has not been easy for Keith Maxant and his two boys. Up until recently, all three were crammed into a 300-square-foot cottage.

One of his sons, Keith Jr., has Down syndrome and is battling a number of health issues. Dad is his only caregiver.

“I really don't have a lot," started Mazant, "but the happiest times of my life are taking care of my children."

The Kiwanis Club of Spring Hill, the Arc Nature Coast and a long list of other community members in Hernando County pulled together and to get Maxant and his boys their own home.

A place of their own is something that desperately needed, but couldn't afford.

“I don't think I have ever been in a community that has been as giving and caring as this community here,” Maxant said.

Kiwanis Club president Ann Faith says when members discovered Keith's situation, they stepped up and made the home a reality.

“It has been a great experience,” Faith said.

“Sometimes it is tough to put words to the way you feel and how grateful you are,” Maxant said.

Thanks to members of the community, Maxant family is now living in a three-bedroom home.
