A 77-year-old man was critically injured in a rollover crash in Oldsmar on Wednesday, according to Pinellas County deputies.

  • J. Cleofas Vergara-Jaimes, 77, airlifted from scene
  • Vergara-Jaimes was a passenger in car involved in crash
  • Speed, impairment not considered factors in crash, deputies say

J. Cleofas Vergara-Jaimes, 77, was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Joel Vergara-Rodriguez, 48. The vehicle was traveling south on Forest Lakes Boulevard just south of Tampa Road at the time of the crash. As the car, a 2002 Dodge Dakota, approached the exit to the Walgreens parking lot on Forest Lake Boulevard, it was struck by another car leaving the parking lot.

The Dakota was struck on the passenger's side and rolled over. Vergara-Jaimes received what were originally thought to be life-threatening injuries and was airlifted for medical treatment.

Vergara-Rodriguez and the driver of the other car, Chelsea Caldwell, 18, were not injured.

Investigators say that speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
