Angela Kerney's daughter Rose, 13, was diagnosed with lymphoblastic leukemia last year. Rose has had to spend a lot of time at home, but Angela says Rose is a trooper, and always has a smile on her face.

“The chemo did take a lot out of her, some of the treatments gave her nerve damage, and she was having trouble walking,” said Kerney. “She’s getting stronger every day, she’s in remission and she’s getting back to her old self,” said Kerney.

Kerney expected that big smile from Rose when she saw her room for the first time. Volunteers from Make-A-Wish and Lowes worked all day Wednesday to turn her room into her favorite Hogwart's House, “Ravenclaw.”

“Doing this is just amazing," said Kerney. "It's like you have faith in people and hope that there’s good people in the world these days.”

When Rose got to see the finished product--fresh painted walls, new carpet, Ravenclaw-colored decorations and a robe--her jaw dropped.

“So amazing, oh gosh, it’s a lot,” said Rose about her new personalized space. “'Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, when one only remembers to turn on the light,'” she added, reading a Harry Potter quote off the wall.

When asked why that quote meant so much to her, her answer was simple.

“Because you know what I’m going through is hard and you have to find something that makes you happy,” she said.
