The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says a man accused of stealing a flatbed truck and shooting at a sheriff's office helicopter last week is in custody.

Wesley Grace, 31, was arrested Saturday morning. Deputies say he was seen walking away from a stolen commercial truck into a wooded area in Lakeland. He was caught by a canine unit and taken to the hospital with bite wounds.

Grace faces 39 charges incurred over the three-day time span. Deputies say he also had other warrant charges out for his arrest from May 2016.

Grace said he ran from deputies because he believed they had a "shoot-to-kill warrant" out for him and he was scared for his life, according to the report. He denied shooting at them, however.

He is being held on no bond.
