An elderly woman whose caretakers were arrested after her death has been identified.

  • Kathryn Ashe, 66, found dead last Friday
  • 2 caretakers arrested, charged with neglect
  • Home was 'uninhabitable'

Gulfport Police publicly identified the woman Tuesday as Kathryn Ashe after they could not find a next of kin to notify.

According to police, the 66-year-old was found dead inside an “uninhabitable” house in the 5300 block of 29th Avenue South at about 8:31 p.m. June 24. Police said the house was extremely cluttered and infested with roaches.

Jennifer Poulos, 41, and Debra Poulos, 61, were both charged with neglect.

Investigators say the two women were caretakers for Ashe for the past eight months. The caretakers left Ashe alone and moved out of the house about 10 days before the police found her body.

Both women “intentionally failed to provide adequate care for the victim,” according to the report.

Jennifer Poulos’ 4-year-old son was removed from her custody after police discovered that the child had been residing in the uninhabitable conditions for the past eight months. As a result, she is also facing a child neglect charge.
