There’s excitement stirring in Lutz for the opening of its first Chick-Fil-A.

  • First Chick-Fil-A opening Thursday at 6 a.m. in Lutz
  • First 100 people win a year’s worth or 52 #1 Chick-Fil-A sandwich meals

In fact people have been camping out there since Wednesday morning to be part to its first 100 giveaway celebration.

People began showing up at the Chick-Fil-A on State Road 56 armed with tents, fans and things to keep themselves occupied before the sun even came out.

All for free chicken sandwiches? Yep, pretty much. Chick-Fil-A has had a long standing tradition of opening its premises the day before the grand opening to the first 100 people. Those lucky winners get a year’s worth, or 52,  No. 1 Chick-Fil-A sandwich meals.

It's Ryan Richmond’s third time bearing the heat and staying overnight for a Chick-Fil-A giveaway in the Bay area.

“If you want the free Chick-Fil-A, it's the price you pay," said Richmond.

"It's kind of like when we went camping on the beach, but less people," said Maraiya Perez, Richmond’s daughter.

Those who are at the fast food chain have been served food, drinks and entertained with games. They can also go inside to escape the heat.

The restaurant opens Thursday at 6 a.m. when all the campers can claim their prize. If any one of them can’t make it all night there are 10 alternate slots to take their place.

In order to participate Chick-fil-A requires you to be 18 years or older and live in the area.
