A massive tractor tire was stolen from a Clearwater fitness facility, police say, but the enormity of the object isn't even the most surprising part of this case.

A man with a prosthetic leg was seen on surveillance video rolling the giant tire away, Clearwater Police said.

  • Man with a prosthetic leg seen walking off with a giant tire
  • Tire weighed several hundred pounds
  • Tire belongs to Anytime Fitness on Highland Avenue

Officers say there’s no chance it was a misunderstanding. In the video, the man with a prosthetic leg is seen cutting cables and locks before he makes off with it. He rolls the tire to his vehicle, loads it and drives away.

The alleged theft occurred May 26 at Anytime Fitness at 1595 S. Highland Ave.

The suspect is described as 25 to 30 years old, weighing about 180 pounds and standing 5 feet 11 inches tall. He was wearing a red T-shirt and black shorts.

Anyone with information on his identity or this case should call Clearwater Police at (727) 562-4242 or call Crime Stoppers of Pinellas County at 1-800-873-TIPS. The TIP411 system can also be used by texting a tip and the keyword CWPD to 847411.
