  • Incident happened on June 17th
  • Fight was over fare
  • Driver needed stitches

It happened on June 17, just after 4 p.m.

Police said the rider was mad the bus driver wouldn’t give him a student discount (half off the fare) because his identification card was expired.

The rider refused to pay the full fare, police say. The bus driver pulled over at Central Avenue and 47th Street and told the young man to get off the bus.

Police said the rider then punched the bus driver in the right eye and ran off. The bus driver's eye glasses were broken and he had to have stitches under his right eye.

The suspect is described as a black male, 18-24 years old, around 6'1 in height, 140 to 180 pounds, and having a light complexion. He was wearing dark clothing and a black apron, thought to be work clothing for a fast food restaurant chain.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspect is asked to call the St. Petersburg Police Department at 727-893-7780.
