Here's what you need to know about the Bay area weather for overnight into Friday and the weekend:

Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms will be in the Gulf of Mexico developing along the coast before daybreak. The rain chance is around 30 percent through morning.

Morning low temperatures will range from the low to mid 70s in northern counties to upper 70s inland and a few low 80s in Tampa Bay and at the beaches.

On Friday, a moist and unstable air mass over the area, along with the daytime heating, will lead to scattered showersand thunderstorms beginning in the morning at the coast, with a south-southwesterly wind direction and getting a push inland along the sea breeze during the afternoon. Coverage will become more pervasive inland during the late afternoon and evening.

With ample moisture and instability in place, some of the storms will produce heavy rain, gusty winds, and frequent lightning strikes. High temperatures will be in the upper 80s to low 90s again on Friday.

Kicking off the holiday weekend will be partly sunny skies with more moisture available and a trough of low pressure moving across northern Florida. Northern counties will see numerous showers and thunderstorms, with a more scattered variety south into the Tampa Bay area on Saturday with rain chances around 50 percent to 60 percent.

For Sunday and the 4th of July scattered showers and a few thunderstorms along the coast in the morning becoming more widespread in the afternoon along the sea breeze inland with highs in the low 90s and low temperatures in the upper 70s. The rain chance is 40 percent each day.
