Largo Police were able to assist Largo Fire Rescue as they went door-to-door in Mariners Cove, located off of 58th Ave, just south of Ulmerton Road, helping stranded residents.

Police drove an emergency response vehicle capable of driving through high levels of water, while firefighters braved the rising waters and brought people to the vehicle.

In some of the deeper areas, water appeared to exceed three-and-a-half-feet in depth.

The Largo Fire Department reports 30 people were evacuated with assistance. There were no injuries.

Several people are sheltering in place (staying with friends or neighbors), others left the areas to find their own accommodations, and about 20 people are taking advantage of a shelter that was set up.

The shelter is at the Ross Norton Complex, 14265 MLK Avenue, in Clearwater.

Duke energy has shut down power to the affected area. Pinellas animal control responded to offer assistance to residents with animals. Sunstar EMS personnel were also on scene to assist residents. PSTA assisted with transport to the shelter.
