Here's what you need to know about the Bay area weather for overnight into Saturday and the 4th of July holiday weekend:

  • Scattered showers, thunderstorms in the Gulf overnight
  • Saturday showers spread into coastal counties by midday
  • Rain chances start along the coast early, then move inland each day

Overnight a more southerly wind direction develops with scattered showers and a few thunderstorms in the Gulf.  A few showers will make it to the coast.

Skies will remain partly to mostly cloudy. It will also feel muggy. Low temperatures will be in the mid 70s to low 80s.

Winds will shift from the southwest again for the morning with showers and thunderstorms in the Gulf moving along the coastline, eventually spreading through the coastal counties by midday. By the afternoon a more pronounced west-southwest wind flow takes over and pushes most of the activity inland.

With extra upper level energy riding along a surface trough, northern counties will see a higher coverage of rain. Be careful of heavy rainfall, especially along the coast in the morning that may move over the same spots, which could cause ponding on the roads. Some storms may produce gusty winds and dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning.

High pressure is centered just to our south. This will keep a southwest flow across the area over the next several days.  This will mean that rain chances will continue to start early at the coast then will shift inland.
