A 52-year-old Tampa woman was killed Friday morning when she was accidentally shot by her daughter.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, Carolyn Wright was shot at her home at 8202 Pinehurst Circle after a family member came home with a gun.

Deputies said multiple family members live at the residence, including four children aged 17, 15, 13 and 8. Deputies said after one of the teens came home with a gun, his mother discovered it and took it away from him.

The woman unloaded the weapon and apparently thought it was empty, but there was still one round in the chamber. She accidentally fired the weapon, striking her mother, the teen's grandmother, in the upper body.  

Wright died at the scene.

Deputies said one of the teenagers panicked, picked up the gun and ran down the street and threw the gun into a storm drain.

The gun was recovered.

Detectives are investigating to determine where the gun came from.
