A Sarasota man is taking fundraising to new heights this summer.

  • Nick Altier of Sarasota is currently climbing Mont Blanc
  • He hopes to raise $1 for ever meter he climbs
  • Altier will donate the money he raises to Goodwill’s Veteran’s Initiative

Nick Altier’s climb on Mont Blanc in the French Alps started Saturday. For each meter of the 4,810 meter trek, Altier wants to raise $1 and donate the funds to Goodwill’s Veteran’s Initiative.

If he’s successful, that’ll be almost $5,000.

“It’s crazy,” said Veronica Brandon Miller with Goodwill Manasota. “It’s awesome, and it’s the very first I’ve heard of. We’re just blessed he selected us.”

So how hard will it be to scale Mont Blanc? To put it in perspective, the mountain is the same height as 12 Empire State buildings stacked on top of each other.

Leaders at Goodwill Manasota say the unique fundraiser is a blessing to their organization.

“It’s not everyday somebody wakes up and says ‘hey I want to climb the tallest mountain in Europe,’” said Miller. “That’s crazy.”

For his part, Altier says he can’t wait to give back to an organization that makes his community a better place.
