Here's what you need to know about weather in the Tampa Bay area for the weekend:

  • Some showers, thunderstorms over Gulf waters overnight
  • Lows in the mid 70s
  • Sunday will be hot with a few scattered storms by early afternoon

Skies will clear over land before morning, but there may be some showers and thunderstorms over the Gulf waters through morning.  Lows will be again in the mid 70s north and inland to upper 70s to 80 around Tampa Bay.

On Sunday the east-southeast flow will continue. With no major changes to the air mass, and ample atmospheric moisture in place, afternoon thunderstorm activity can be expected the rest of the weekend.

Storms will start near the coast in the early afternoon and then shift inland. The best overall coverage will likely be around the I-75 corridor, with storms shifting westward during the evening.

Temperatures will remain above normal with low 90s near the coast, mid 90s inland with heat indices in the 100 to 105 range.  As is usually the case this time of year, a few strong to severe storms will be possible along with excessive lightning and localized flooding.
