Here's what you need to know about weather in the Tampa Bay area for the weekend:

  • A few storms will develop in the early afternoon
  • Highs again in the low to mid 90s

Tampa tied a record high temperature Sunday afternoon, hitting 96. The Sarasota/Bradenton Airport hit 96, also setting a new record high for the day at that location.

Storms along the coast will push west into the Gulf this evening. Skies will then clear.

There may be some showers and thunderstorms over the Gulf waters overnight.  Lows will be again in the mid 70s north and inland to upper 70s to 80 around Tampa Bay.

On Monday, some dry air in the upper levels may hinder thunderstorm development, so the rain chance will drop some to 30 percent.

Storms will start later again. It will be a little breezy, and an easterly steering flow will continue to favor highest rain chances and storm coverage west of the I-75 corridor to the coast during the late afternoon and early evening hours.

Even though the storms will be fewer in number, locally heavy rains, strong gusty winds, frequent deadly lightning strikes, and some small hail will be possible.

Temperatures on Monday will remain above normal with fewer storms around. Daytime highs will climb into the lower 90s along the coast, and mid 90s inland with heat indices in the 100 to 105 degree range.
