More than 800,000 hits per day. That's the traffic reported by the Hillsborough Area Rapid Transit Association for their popular One Bus Away Application.

  • Real time route information now available via the HART One Bus Away application
  • First agency in country on the One Bus Away Platform to integrate a trip planner
  • Currently available in the Google Play Store, iPhone version expected to be released soon

The application has been in existence for three years, however, this week it made history according to Shannon Haney, HART's Intelligent Transportation Systems Coordinator.

"One of the other enhancements we're very proud of is being the first agency in the country on the One Bus Away Platform to integrate a trip planner," Haney said.

Now, app users can enter their location and destination while the app gives them step by step directions regarding bus stop locations, current bus locations and arrival times to those stops. Information is delivered in real time via GPS trackers on each HART Bus.

In the past users were forced to use Google Maps or another outside service to find route information. The app also provides notifications to users if the bus arrival information varies from the posted schedule.

The application also allows for developers and programmers from other transportation agencies to interface with HART.

For example; A HART rider exits the bus, and learns from a local Bike Share program the nearest Bike Kiosk is one block away. Haney believes it's this important "first mile, last mile" of anyone's journey that will be significantly enhanced by the new addition to the application.

One Bus Away is currently available in the Google Play Store. The iPhone version is expected to be released soon.
