Two people were injured after a plane crashed Friday morning in Polk County.

It occurred shortly before 10 a.m. in the area of Terrace Avenue West and Buena Vista Drive South in Lake Alfred.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office said the pilot, 84-year-old John Murphy, and his wife, 75-year-old Doris Murphy of Lake Alfred, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Authorities said the plane, a Republic Seabee, lost altitude shortly after takeoff and struck a garage at a home.

Nobody was home when the incident occurred.

Lake Alfred police and the Federal Aviation Administration also responded to the scene.
