The drier air we’ve been advertising made it into our atmosphere and is resulting in fewer storms.

  • Lower coverage of storms through Thursday
  • Thursday will one of summer's driest days
  • Record high Wednesday at Sarasota/Bradenton Airport

There have still been some heavy storms in the area, but the coverage is way down compared to just a few days ago. What few storms are out there this evening will slowly wind down with clearing skies overnight.

Thursday morning lows will be a bit warmer due to the lack of storms. Expect lows in the upper 70s inland, low 80s near the coast, and mid 70s in northern counties.

Thursday will be one of the driest days of the summer. This seems to happen at least once each summer where we get a day or two of really dry air to keep our rain chance low.

There will still be a few storms, but they will be very isolated with the rain coverage below 20 percent.

Because of that the high temperatures will be hotter in the mid to upper 90s, except for right along the immediate coast where it will stay near 91.

Meanwhile, the Sarasota/Bradenton Airport had a high of 97 degrees at 1:24 p.m. Wednesday, according to Meteorologist Mike Clay. This is a new record high for July 26. The old record was 96, set on this date in 1998, 1996, and 1968.
