Volunteers are being sought for a Citrus County drill designed to help special-needs people get out safely in the event an evacuation is ordered.

  • Volunteers needed for special-needs drill
  • Drill entails calling registrants to ensure contact info is up to date
  • Drill to be held Tuesday, July 19

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of the Nature Coast Volunteer Center will host the Special Needs Call-Down Drill from 8:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday, July 19.

The volunteers will call special needs registrants to make sure their contact information is up to date. In the event of a real evacuation, special needs registrants would be contacted by volunteers to confirm they have transportation to evacuate safely.

At the opening of the training session, volunteers will be briefed on procedure, and a script will be provided for volunteers to follow. They will receive a certificate of attendance and will be able to register to serve during an actual evacuation. Refreshments will be served during the training and drill session.

The training exercise is being sponsored in partnership with Citrus County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Management and will be held at the Citrus County Transit Center, 1300 S. Lecanto Highway in Lecanto.
