Hernando County Fire Rescue is looking for qualified volunteers to help save lives and property in the community.

This Volunteer Firefighter Program is a valuable opportunity for Florida certified firefighters just starting their careers and in need of experience. Retired state certified firefighters who wish to continue serving are also eligible.

"Volunteer firefighters are an important part of our team of professional emergency responders," Fire Chief/Assistant County Administrator Scott Hechler said. "We are building upon our existing high performing department with this supplemental program and hope to recruit our next generation of career firefighters looking to work, serve and live in their home town."

Volunteers will receive the following benefits:

  • Continuing education credit for maintaining certification
  • Free annual physical
  • Equipment provided at no cost
  • Family atmosphere and the camaraderie that is tradition in the fire service

  • Excitement that comes with saving lives

Those interested must apply and meet basic education, certification and other job standards.

The deadline to apply for the initial 20 volunteer vacancies is November 14, 2016.
