The NOAA hurricane forecast for the 2016 season was revised again Thursday.

  • Five named storms so far this season
  • NOAA increases storm prediction numbers
  • Watch our Tropical Update at :49 past the hour
  • Visit our Hurricane Center

The agency has increased its forecast numbers for the rest of the season. It has upped named storms from 10-16 to 12-17, hurricanes from 4-8 to 5-8, and major hurricanes from 1-4 to 2-4.

We've already had five named storms and one hurricane (although Alex shouldn't count because it was in January on the other side of the Atlantic).

The overall ACE (Accumulated Cyclone Energy) for the season so far is near normal.

During hurricane season, I’d rather you take it about five days at a time in the tropics and not pay attention to these numbers. As of Aug. 11, the next two weeks looks very quiet in the tropics.

We have our Tropical Update every hour at :49 past, more often if a system develops.

Remember, the seasonal forecast doesn't matter. IT ONLY TAKES ONE STORM to hit you and it has been a busy year for you.
