St. Petersburg Police say a man who committed suicide with a handgun was the cause of a crash that closed northbound Interstate 275 for several hours Sunday.

Lanes were reopened just before 8 a.m.
The crash occurred about midnight in the area near 54th Avenue North.
According to police, a driver identified as 57-year-old Leonard de la Garza, Jr., of Largo, committed suicide with a handgun while driving northbound on I-275.
The driver's actions caused his car to swerve into the path of two other northbound cars, police said.
No one else involved in the accident received any serious injuries.
