A 16-year-old boy vacationing from Massachusetts was arrested on two counts of attempted second degree murder Wednesday evening.

  • Minor stabbed mother, brother, while vacationing on Siesta Key
  • 16-year-old suspect was reportedly found wandering the streets asking for help
  • Both victims in critical condition

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office says the teen stabbed his mother, Melissa Ramgren, and 14-year-old brother, Charles, multiple times. The attack reportedly happened near the 8900 block of Blind Pass Road in Siesta Key around 9 p.m.

Deputies say Melissa was the one to call 9-1-1.

When help arrived, first responders found both victims suffering from multiple stab wounds. Additional units responded and located the 16-year-old nearby. According to report, he was asking neighbors to help his family.

Both victims remain hospitalized in critical condition.

The teen waived his Miranda rights. Deputies say he’s been cooperative, providing a full confession to stabbing both his mother and younger brother. He told deputies the family had been having a nice time before the stabbing.

The underaged suspect is currently being held at the Sarasota County Jail without bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
