If you're looking for something to do Labor Day weekend, there are plenty of options. And some of the best come at the last minute.

According to orbitz.com, San Diego and Chicago are the number 3 and 4 spots, while Las Vegas just edges out L.A. as the No. 1 Labor Day destination.

New York comes in at No. 5.

Orlando is rebounding in the number 6 spot, followed by Orange County, California; Denver, San Francisco, and Seattle round out the top 10.

The strong U.S. dollar puts Canada and Europe on the Labor Day radar as well.

Check out priceline.com's Express Deal function, where you don't learn the name of the hotel until after you book it. This "opaque" scenario can offer up to 50 percent off 4- and 5-star hotels.

Expedia.com chiming in with its travel hacks: avoid flying on Friday, Sept. 2, when the most crowded airports will be Atlanta, LAX, Chicago O'Hare, and JFK.

For optimum savings, package your hotel and airfare at the same time, where you can save about $1,000 in Paris and London, for example.

And finally, Expedia says look for last-minute savings on beach stays — up to 20 percent off — when booking just three days in advance of Labor Day, in places such as Cape Cod and Fort Lauderdale.
