Amanda Marshall started the organization Geaux Give on Facebook. “Geaux” is the Cajun word for go.

The organization links volunteers to children who lost their personal belongings in the Louisiana floods.

The volunteers send care packages to help replace what the children lost.

“If we can add a little brightness to their day, it’s worth it,” Marshall said.

For Marshall, it’s a personal mission. She was raised in Louisiana.

“My mom is still there,” Marshall said. “My family is in the hardest hit areas.”

Marshall has received all sorts of support from volunteers.

Tara Moran is one of the many who purchased clothing and other personal items. She’s sending a care package to two children in Louisiana.

“It was just a heartbreaking situation,” Moran said. “You look around your house and you're like, 'what if I lost all this?' and it was easy to contribute and to help, thinking about all that.”

Marshall said she’s been surprised with the number of people who have joined her effort to help the youngest of victims.

“It’s crazy,” Marshall said. “I told my husband maybe 50, maybe 50 kids. We’ve helped more than 70 and we’re not even a week old yet.”
