A suspect in a counterfeiting case was arrested Thursday after being on the run from Citrus County investigators for almost two weeks.

  • Lelton Barron, 31, facing counterfeiting charges
  • Barron arrested at Homosassa motel
  • Deputies found items used to make counterfeit bills in room

Citrus County Sheriff's deputies said Lelton Barron, 31, was wanted in connection with a counterfeiting case which unfolded at a motel in Crystal River on August 11.

Investigators said they received a tip Thursday morning that Barron was staying at the Bella Oasis Motel in Homosassa. Deputies obtained a search warrant for the room, and upon searching it found several items used for counterfeiting bills.

Barron was arrested and subsequently charged with the following:

  • Knowingly pass a false/forged/counterfeit bill/check that was brought into the state
  • Uttering forged bills/checks/drafts/notes

Deputies ask that any businesses that might have had contact with Barron or feel they might have been victimized by him should contact Detective Holloway with the Citrus County Sheriff's Office.
