A 50-year-old woman was killed Friday night when she was struck by a bolt of lightning while looking for cover in a Sarasota park.

The incident occurred at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park on Cocoanut Avenue.

Sarasota County Fire Rescue workers said the woman was killed when a lightning bolt struck the gazebo she was standing under in order to wait out the storm.

No further information about the victim has been released at this time.
